I have long loved tricks with coins and the brass Okito box and have learned many of them over the years. When I started making magic using casino chips I wanted to add my favorite Okito box routines but the dollar sized Okito box in my collection was a little small to fit the slightly larger casino chips so I decided to make a set. First I made up a set of a regular box and a Boston type box out of mahogany. I use a lot of mahogany because Floyd Thayer made a lot of his magic using this wood so it's in honor of Mr. Thayer that I do this. However, a lot of fine vintage gambling apparatus was made of rosewood as well so I pulled out some expensive rosewood lumber and made up some sets using this. Rosewood is really beautiful as you can see in the picture below. I made them square so they would look more like gambling apparatus. This shape makes more sense to me in this context.
What I am offering is two sets, identical but for the type wood they are made of. The sets consist of two boxes and a matching lid. These work exactly like an Okito box and you can do all the Okito box moves with them. One box is like a regular Okito box and the other one is made like a Boston box. First I'd like to say thanks to all the magicians who ordered Chip Sets from me in the past I've finally been able to put the $$$ together to get a nice older Austrian made Unimat precision mini lathe from an older gentleman (well, older than me by 30 years) who made camera parts for Fairchild camera back in the day. It's a wonderful machine and I've been enjoying using it. I set it up on our sun porch which really warms up nice on those cold but sunny winter days and during the recent "cold snap" we got busy with making shim cards and inlaying some powerful rare earth magnets in clay casino chips to match the other chip sets we make.
The magnetic chips set comes in with some instructions for do a couple of nice tricks to get you started and some suggestions for further study. Plus, you can do any of the great tricks using magnetic coins published in books like the Bobo book and Magnetrix.
I've included a picture of my new chip rig for you to marvel over.
In addition to the new magnetic chips and the chip stacks look for a casino chip Sun and Moon and a Silver Copper type effect as well as a casino chip with an inlayed shiner and some shells in the near future.
Magnetic Casino Chip Set
The set consists of one shim card in Bicycle. A shim card is a card that has been split using the tried and true splitting method and then glued back together with the addition of some .005" steel stock. These cards are called shim cards because the steel glued in them is made from material machinists use to align tools by the practice of using thin metal pieces they call shims. In this case, we use the thinist; .005 inch thick steel shim stock. You can't even see it in the card but look at the pictures and you'll see that it does the job and the magnetic chip sticks to it.
In addition to the shim card, two special chips are included. One is a magnetic chip. This is a chip with a strong rare earth magnet inlayed into the chip invisibly plus a matching chip, a chip with some inert steel inlayed so it is attracted to the magnetic chip. I guess you could say that this is a romance and both Shim and Jim are attracted to Maggie!!

Las Vegas Chip Assembly
Finally a matrix routine that has a reason to live! The performer lays out four $25 casino chips in the standard matrix fashion and covers them with four playing cards. The chips magically assemble under one of the playing cards. Once again the chips are laid out, covered and three are vanished as before. This time, however, when the last card is lifted, not to show the four green chips as the audience expects, but a single $100 chip of a completely different color. A real assembly!
As you might expect this routine will take some work. The chips are about the size of silver dollars so a fair amount of precise handling is necessary. The real work will come in the second phase when each chip needs to be stolen and the $100 chip loaded. The instructions are well thought out and adequately illustrated.
The important thing to note is the quality of the props. The chips are not plastic but are real 11.5 oz. clay chips. A deck of Casino cards, complete with a casino logo, completes this professional looking outfit.
